### How to Apply
Exciting news for all government job aspirants! The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has rolled out its much-awaited Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026 notification. This is your golden ticket to prestigious Group 'B' and Group 'C' posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India. Applying for this coveted exam is a straightforward process, but it requires careful attention to detail to avoid any last-minute hiccups. Hereβs a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to ensure your application sails smoothly:
1. **One-Time Registration (OTR):** If you havenβt registered on the SSC's new website (ssc.gov.in) before, your first step is a mandatory One-Time Registration. Click on the 'Register Now' link. You'll need to provide basic details like your Aadhar Number (or other ID), name, father's name, mother's name, date of birth, education board, roll number, year of passing 10th class, gender, highest educational qualification, mobile number, and email ID. Double-check all details before saving. You'll receive a Registration Number and Password on your registered mobile number and email. Keep these safe!
2. **Login and Update Profile:** Log in using your Registration Number and Password. You might be prompted to change your password. Once logged in, review your profile details. Ensure everything is accurate. You can edit certain fields if needed, but remember, critical details like your name, date of birth, and father's name cannot be changed after submission of the OTR.
3. **Filling the Application Form:** After successful OTR, click on the 'Apply' link for the 'Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026'. The system will auto-populate most of your personal details from your OTR. You'll need to fill in additional information specific to the CGL application, such as preference for examination centres (choose three in order of preference), whether you are an Ex-Serviceman, seeking age relaxation, your highest educational qualification (specifically your graduation details), and details about posts requiring specific qualifications (e.g., JSO/AAO).
4. **Upload Photograph and Signature:** This is a crucial step! Upload a recent scanned photograph (taken within the last three months) and your scanned signature. Ensure the photograph is clear, without cap or spectacles, and meets the specified dimensions (20KB-50KB, JPG format). The signature should be clear, on white paper with black ink (10KB-20KB, JPG format). The system will check for image quality and dimensions, so make sure they comply.
5. **Fee Payment:** If you are eligible for fee exemption (SC/ST/PwBD/Female candidates), you can skip this step. For General/OBC male candidates, the application fee is βΉ100/-. You can pay this online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa/Mastercard/Maestro Credit/Debit cards. Make sure your payment is successful and you receive a confirmation. Offline payment through SBI Challan is also usually an option, but online is recommended for faster processing.
6. **Review and Submit:** Before final submission, carefully review your entire application form. Check all entries, especially educational qualifications, exam centre preferences, and photograph/signature uploads. Once satisfied, click on the 'I agree' checkbox and then 'Final Submit'. You will receive a confirmation message. Take a printout of your submitted application form for future reference. No changes are allowed after final submission.

### Preparation Tips
Cracking the SSC CGL exam is a dream for many, but it's certainly achievable with a smart and consistent preparation strategy. Here are some actionable tips to boost your chances of success:
1. **Understand the Exam Pattern & Syllabus:** Before you even open a book, thoroughly go through the detailed syllabus and exam pattern for both Tier I and Tier II. Identify your strong and weak areas. This will help you allocate your study time effectively.
2. **NCERT is Your Friend:** For General Awareness, especially History, Geography, Polity, and basic Science, refer to NCERT books from Class 6 to 10. They provide a solid foundation in a clear, easy-to-understand language. For economics, Class 11 & 12 NCERTs are a must.
3. **Quantitative Aptitude Mastery:** Practice is key! Start with basic concepts from books like R.S. Aggarwal's Quantitative Aptitude or Kiran Prakashan. Focus on understanding the formulas and shortcuts. Solve a wide variety of problems from each topic. Time yourself while solving to improve speed and accuracy.
4. **Reasoning β Logic is Key:** Reasoning questions can be tricky but are highly scoring. Practice diverse types of questions daily. Puzzles, series, coding-decoding, syllogism β dedicate time to each. Books like R.S. Aggarwal's Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning are excellent resources.
5. **English Comprehension β Build Your Basics:** Read English newspapers (The Hindu, The Indian Express) daily to improve vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. Solve grammar exercises from Wren & Martin. Practice cloze tests, error spotting, and reading comprehension passages regularly. For vocabulary, maintain a dedicated notebook.
6. **Current Affairs (General Awareness):** Stay updated with daily current affairs. Follow a good daily news analysis (online or specific current affairs magazines). Make short notes for quick revision. Focus on national and international events, awards, sports, defence, and government schemes.
7. **Mock Tests Are Non-Negotiable:** Begin taking full-length mock tests regularly once you've covered a significant portion of the syllabus. Analyze your performance after each mock. Identify where you're losing marks β conceptual errors, silly mistakes, or time management issues. This is the single most effective way to improve.
8. **Previous Year Papers:** Solve as many previous year's SSC CGL papers as possible. This familiarizes you with the actual exam environment, question types, and helps you understand the weightage of different topics. Use these as additional mock tests.
9. **Time Management Strategy:** During the exam, don't get stuck on one question. If it's taking too long, mark it for review and move on. Attempt questions from your strong sections first to build confidence and save time.
10. **Health & Mindset:** Don't neglect your physical and mental well-being. Get adequate sleep, eat healthily, and incorporate short breaks or light exercise into your study routine. A calm and focused mind performs best under pressure. Believe in yourself and stay consistent!
